Relationships
- Supervisor: Senior
Pastor; takes direction from Associate in Ministry and is responsible to her
regarding day-to-day activities
- Works with the Teen
and Family Ministry Team Leader in planning and organizing
- Coordinates working
relationships with above individuals and the youth, parents and other
volunteers involved with high school ministry.
- Develops
relationships with the public, unchurched youth, other youth leaders within
the ELCA and other denominations
Function:
The function of this
position is to coordinate and lead LYO activities, at the junior and senior high
school level, at Luther Memorial Church in concert with the doctrines of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate a
strong Christian spirit in daily life and exhibit a servant’s heart.
- Must be committed to
the teachings of the Lutheran faith.
- Must demonstrate high
energy.
- Must be organized and
demonstrate administrative abilities including, but not limited to, computer
skills, budgets, fund allocation and exceptional communication.
- Some musical ability
preferred but not required.
- Must be self
motivated.
- Must be a team
player.
- Must be creative.
- Must have a love of
youth and a desire to help them grow spiritually.
- Must have a High
School Education with some college preferred.
- Experience with youth
groups preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the regular LYO
meetings with an eye on developing spiritual growth.
- Develop a curriculum
and program that nourishes leadership and youth participation within the
church congregation.
- Coordinate
fundraisers for the LYO with the use of adult volunteers.
- Work with Mission
Outreach Ministry Team to reach out to other youth in the community.
- Lead planning for and
arrange adult chaperones for Mission Trips and National Youth Gathering.
- Recruit, train, and
develop parental volunteers.
- Coordinate service
projects with the youth, including, but not limited to, leaf raking, egg
hunt and Free Lunch Saturdays.
- Develop long range
planning for LYO with a team of adult volunteers.
- Attend all Luther
Memorial Church Council meetings.
- Plan fifth-Sunday
worship services.
- Assist as needed with
the JR High and confirmation groups.
- Attend Synod and
conference youth activities.
- Other duties and
projects as designated by the pastoral leadership and church council.
Hours:
20 hours a week average
Remuneration:
Salary to be commensurate with abilities and experience.
